Abu Talib and Fatima bint Asad were the parents of Hazrat Ali R.A. (Arabic: علي ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib), also referred to as Al-Hussein, who lived from approximately 600 to 661 CE. He founded a pure Islamic state in Medina, which is now Saudi Arabia, and is regarded by Shia Muslims as an Imam and Caliph.
Through his daughter Fatima Zahra, who wed Ali’s father Abu Talib, he was descended from Muhammad. He was the first man to be called “Imam,” which means “leader” or “guide.”
